The everyday female metamorphosis

¿Loco no?

The intro for a small zine I’m working on:
In today’s society, to be a woman means to look in a particular way: Tall, skinny, with an hour-glass figure, smooth skinned and luscious lips.
Every day we put our body through a small metamorphosis. It happens for various reasons and most of them are to fit society’s beauty standards. You know, so we can be agreeable under other peoples’ eyes.
It all starts around the 12 years old with small alterable things, like our first leg hairs. It continues to the size of our boobs and our weight. Later it moves to less easy alterable things like the thigh gap, the hourglass figure, the removal of our stretch marks and wrinkles. Without noticing, we are undergoing surgery so we can feel prettier!. (Ok… Maybe not all of us)
This small fanzine shows some of the changes that I do or have done to my body in order to fell pretty, not been judge, please my parents and my significant other, etc. you get the idea. It also contains short stories of those everyday changes, how they started or a particular experience.
By the way, I’m not trying to condemn women who shave their legs, wear makeup or get a boob job. I’m just trying to stand up for those who do it because they feel the social pressure and who don’t, and because of that choice have to undergo a continuous and very severe judgment for not “taking care of themselves”.
It took me a while to understand that our value as women resides in one simple fact: WE EXIST. Crazy right! It is such a simple thought that gets condition by the way we look. And that, my friends, should never be a factor to weight the value of our life, experience, work and safety.
